Sauna Like a Rockstar: 5 Famous Musicians Who Turn Up the Heat
Coldplay in Helsinki, Blur’s Alex James, Samu Haber’s sauna songwriting, The Rasmus and Korpiklaani: five musicians with seriously hot sauna stories.

Sold-out stadiums. Screaming fans. Backstage parties.
You’d think rock stars would have enough heat in their lives already.
Apparently not.
From Coldplay’s Finnish adventure to a rock star who got kicked out of a spa, these musicians have some seriously entertaining sauna stories.
Turn up the music. Turn up the heat.
1. Chris Martin — Coldplay Gets Hot
A Sky Full of Steam
When Coldplay arrived in Finland for their first concerts there in 2024, they decided to experience a little local culture.
And what could be more Finnish than a sauna?
Chris Martin and guitarist Jonny Buckland told Finnish broadcaster Yle that they’d enjoyed a sauna followed by a swim in the sea.
The band was preparing to perform for thousands of fans in Helsinki.
But before lighting up the stadium, they were enjoying a different kind of heat.
Coldplay. Hot sauna. Perfect combination.
2. Alex James — Blur, Sweat and Rock ’n’ Roll
The Sauna Life Is for Me
Blur bassist Alex James has spent decades living the rock-star lifestyle.
But there’s one luxury he apparently couldn’t live without.
His sauna.
During a 2013 interview with Finnish broadcaster Yle, James enthusiastically discussed his love of saunas and revealed he had one at his English country home.
Forget the minibar, backstage rider or dressing-room demands.
All this rock star needs is somewhere hot to sit.

3. Samu Haber — The Singer Who Wrote Songs in a Sauna
Some Like It Hot. Some Write Hits in It.
Finnish singer Samu Haber, best known as the frontman of Sunrise Avenue, takes his sauna sessions seriously.
He has described using a sauna around five times a week.
And here’s the interesting part.
Some of his song and melody ideas have actually come to him while sitting in the heat.
Haber has also owned three saunas, including a traditional wood-burning sauna beside the sea.
A recording studio is useful.
But apparently, so is a very hot wooden room.
Greatest hits. Courtesy of the heat.
4. Lauri Ylönen — The Rasmus Frontman Who Loves the Heat
In the Sauna, Not in the Shadows
As the frontman of Finnish rock band The Rasmus, Lauri Ylönen knows all about dark, dramatic music.
But his favourite escape is rather warmer.
In an interview with Kerrang!, Lauri described visiting a Finnish summer house with a particularly hot sauna.
He explained that sauna has been part of his life since childhood and that he has enjoyed it almost daily.
For a musician whose biggest international hit was In the Shadows, that’s a pretty bright way to unwind.
In the shadows? Not when the sauna heater’s on.
5. Jonne Järvelä — The Rock Star Who Wrote a Song About Sauna
If You Love It, Sing About It
Some musicians write songs about heartbreak.
Others write about fast cars, wild nights and falling in love.
Finnish folk-metal band Korpiklaani went in a slightly different direction.
They released a song called Saunaan — Finnish for “to the sauna.”
Frontman Jonne Järvelä and the band have spoken about their love of Finnish traditions and how sauna culture inspired the song.
Because when you love something enough, sometimes you just have to write a song about it.
Finally. A sauna with its own soundtrack.
